Drones
Sherburn-in-Elmet Aerodrome is protected by a Flight Restriction Zone (FRZ) which means it is illegal to fly a drone or remotely piloted aircraft at any time within the FRZ, unless specific permission is granted by the airport.
Applications to fly within the FRZ
Requests should be submitted via Air Portal. Please allow a minimum of 24 hours' notice for applications to be processed.
Application fees within the FRZ
An application fee maybe charged to cover the cost of assessing and processing your request.
- Recreational: no fee (permission still required)
- Commercial: £30 (incl. VAT)
- Monthly Drone Permit: £150 (incl.VAT)
Flying outside the FRZ
Approval is not required outside the FRZ, but we encourage operators to notify us for situational awareness and safety. Notifications are acknowledged immediately within Air Portal. There is no charge for this.

Cranes
Operating a crane or other tall equipment above 10m AGL within a 6km radius of Sherburn-in-Elmet Aerodrome requires permission from the airport.
Applications
Requests should be submitted via Air Portal a minimum of one week in advance of your operation.
Application fees
An application fee is charged to cover the cost of assessing and processing your request. If an external safeguarding assessment is required, an additional fee may apply; this varies depending on the level of assessment needed.
- Crane application: £240 (incl. VAT)
Operations at or above 100m AGL
Please note cranes and tall equipment operating at or above 100m AGL must also be notified to the Civil Aviation Authority via ACOMS, regardless of proximity to airports or the height of surrounding structures.
